SMU Wins Third Straight With Dominating Victory Over Air Force

DALLAS (SMU)-  Using a 24-2 run over six minutes to close the first half, the SMU women's basketball team picked up its third straight win with a 75-44 victory over Air Force on Thursday afternoon in Moody Coliseum.

Amirah Abdur-Rahim posted her second straight double-double with a career-high 19 points. The senior forward added 11 rebounds, three blocks, and a steal. Tamia Jones scored 14 points, passed six assists, and grabbed four boards. TK Pitts scored a career-high 13 points and added six rebounds, two assists, two steals, and a block. Chantae Embry scored six points and grabbed four boards, and Donavia Hall recorded a career-high six rebounds and four assists. 

Jiya Perry tallied career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, and steals. She finished with nine points, six boards, four assists, and two steals. Tiara Young scored six points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Reagan Bradley posted six points, and Maya Chandler chipped in two and two rebounds. 

Abdur-Rahim rolled off a screen and finished a bucket to get the game started. A layup from Jones sparked six unanswered and put the Mustangs up 12-5 at the media timeout. SMU led 14-10 after the first quarter. Bradley hit a step-back jumper to start the second frame. Abdur-Rahim blocked a shot and scored a bucket in the post on the other end that created a 24-2 run over the last six and a half minutes of the quarter. Pitts hit a jump shot and three-pointer to give SMU a 27-13 lead at the media timeout. Three buckets from Jones, an and-one layup from Abdur-Rahim, and a layup and three-pointer in back-to-back possessions from Perry continued the run and gave SMU a 40-15 lead at the half. 

SMU went on a 15-2 run while holding the Falcons scoreless for six minutes in the third quarter. The Mustangs used another 8-0 run highlighted by three straight buckets from Abdur-Rahim in the fourth quarter to finish off Air Force.
