DALLAS (SMU) – Senior
Nicole Stambo used a season-best performance to win the women's 1 meter competition on night one of the American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships. The six-day event is being held at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.
Stambo pulled together a season-best 307.55, thanks to a 55.90 on her final dive, to take the crown for the third consecutive season. The score was also a narrow two points off her career mark set in 2021. The championship was her fourth overall, having won platform in 2022.
In the morning's preliminary session, Stambo used a six-round 296.55 to advance to finals as the number one seed. The total led the field by over 28 points.
She is the second Mustang to win an AAC 1-meter crown, joining Katie Crown in 2019. Crown is still the conference record holder.
Stambo, the reigning AAC Most Outstanding Diver, has already qualified for NCAA Zones in the event. The senior will take on the field on 3 meter Tuesday and Platform Wednesday.
