NORMAN, Okla. (SMU)- No. 69 SMU women's tennis fell to No. 22 Oklahoma, 4-0, at the Headington Family Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon. SMU dropped the doubles point, before Oklahoma won the next three singles matches, clinching the win.

"The 4-0 score line doesn't tell the story of today's match," said head coach Jeff Nevolo. "We left it all out there against the NCAA runner up on the road in a great tennis environment. We will learn from today and continue to push as we enter the home stretch of the season.

Oklahoma won the doubles point after a pair of 6-2 victories on Courts 1 and 2. Jackie Nylander and Maja Makoric fell first on Court 2 to the No. 8 ranked doubles duo of Alexandra Pisareva and Layne Sleeth. Taylor Johnson and Drew Morris then fell on Court 1 to the No. 32 pairing of Carmen Corley and Ivana Corley. Though left unfinished, Hadley Doyle and Lana Mavor were up 5-3 on Court 3.

The Mustangs continued to fight in singles play with four of the six matches going to deciding third sets.

Julia Garcia Ruiz took Court 5 over Lana Mavor who was forced to retire in the second, giving Oklahoma the 2-0 lead.

Jackie Nylander later fell on Court 4 to Emma Staker 7-6 (4), 6-4 putting the Sooners within one of the match.

For just the second time all spring, Drew Morris (9-2) fell to Alexandra Pisareva on Court 3 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Courts 1, 2 and 6 would go unfinished all in the third set.

Taylor Johnson was battling with the No. 97 ranked player, Carmen Corley. After falling in the opening set and taking the second, Johnson was on serve in the third before left unfinished.

The Mustangs return to the Styslinger/ Altec Tennis Complex on Thursday, Mar. 23 at 1 p.m. to take on No. 40 Denver. The match will be broadcasted on ESPN +.
