DALLAS (SMU)-- SMU men's swimming team wrapped up competition at the American Short Course Championships. The three-day meet serves as a final opportunity to qualify for the NCAA Championships.Ā
The Mustangs competed against Texas, Arizona State, BYU, North Carolina, Pittsburgh and Texas A&M.
The Mustangs earned several NCAA B Standards at the event. Colin Feehery and Joe Rusnock both posted career-best times in the 100 breaststroke. Feehery swam a time of 52.67, and Rusnock clocked in at 53.05. Feehery is SMU's fourth fastest all-time performer in the event, and Rusnock is the fifth. Angus Corbeau (53.51) and Lance Butler (53.58) posted a 4-5 finish and earned NCAA B Standards.Ā
Cotton Fields earned an NCAA B Cut in the 200 butterfly with a career-best time of 1:43.06. Russell Exum posted a career-best time of 46.27 in the 100 butterfly. Exum is second on SMU's all-time fastest performer list in the event.
In the 200 breaststroke, Corbeau moved to sixth all-time on SMU's all-time fastest performer list in the event with a time of 1:55.86.
Butler was a champion in the 50 freestyle after touching the wall at 19.65 (NCAA B Cut)
Fields earned a B Cut in the 400 IM (3:45.97) and Corbeau covered the distance in the 200 IM in 1:45.58
SMU's divers compete at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships starting Tuesday. The Mustang swimmers await Wednesday's selection for the NCAA Championships set for March 22-25 in Minneapolis.
