MINNEAPOLIS (SMU) – Nicole Stambo posted her highest career finish on platform at the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships to qualify for her first NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships Thursday.

Stambo registered a 474.40 over prelims and finals to secure a 10th-place finish and automatically qualify. The senior opened finals with nearly a 13-point improvement on her first two dives from prelims, and closed the event with a 57.60 on her final dive, eight points better than her final dive in the first round.

Named the 2022 AAC Most Outstanding Diver, Stambo is a three-time College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-American and a College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District selection. She has posted 11 career NCAA Zone scores, won four individual conference championships and amassed seven All-AAC honors. Stambo has earned seven conference diver of the week accolades, and has been named to the AAC All-Academic team three times.

With the qualification, Stambo becomes the first Mustang diver to qualify for the National Championships since Johanna Holloway did so on platform in 2020. She will join Luana Alonso at the event, who was selected to compete in the 100-yard butterfly with the option to compete in the 200 as well.

The Championships are set to take place March 15-18 at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
