SMU men's golf looks to defend its title as they travel to The American Athletic Conference Men's Golf Championship running April 21-23 from Pelican Golf Club.

The Field
The 9-team field features six teams ranked in the top 100. Along with the Mustangs, the field includes No. 40 Cincinnati, No. 49 Houston, No. 71 UCF, No. 80 Memphis, East Carolina, Wichita State and Temple.

MUSTANGS AT THE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Mustangs are the reigning AAC Champs and have two titles since joining the conference (2014, 2022). The Mustangs have a total of nine conference titles (1953, 1955, 1956, 1988, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2014 and 2022). A Mustang individual has won medalist honors 15 times including last season (
Nathan Petronzio). SMU has finished in the top two in each of the last four conference championships.

-The Mustangs are ranked No. 73 by Golfstat after ten events on the season with two top-three finishes including a second-place showing at the hometown Trinity Forest Invitational.

Nathan Petronzio leads the Mustangs with a 70.85 scoring average through 27 rounds and is ranked No. 108 by Golfstat. His scoring average ranks as best in a single season at SMU. Petronzio finished in the top third in eight of nine events on the season. Last time out at the Thunderbird Collegiate, Petronzio finished in 17
th of 80 shooting 69 in the first and last rounds. The junior placed in the top quarter of the loaded Goodwin field. Petronzio won his third career tournament at the Wake Forest Invitational posting a final score of three-under. He posted a t-27 showing at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate. Petronzio finished in ninth at the Cal Poly Invite with a best round of 68 on the opening day of the tournament. In October, Petronzio won the Trinity Forest Invitational with a final score of 13-under. The junior shot 68 or better in every round en route to his second career victory. In the second event this season, Petronzio finished in a tie for 15
th at the Inverness Intercollegiate. His best round came in an opening round 70 for a score of one-below par. Last season, Petronzio won the 2022 AAC Championship for his first career tournament title.
Zachary Kingsland enters his 11th career tournament with a 73.10 scoring average, 1.80 above par on average. Kingsland finished in 24
th at the Southern Highlands Collegiate leading the Mustangs squad. In the first event of the fall, Kingsland had his best performance of his young career with a fifth-place finish at the Cal Poly Invite. The freshman finished in 14
th at the Trinity Forest Invitational. Kingsland tied for the lowest round by a Mustang when he shot a 66 in the second round at Trinity Forest. The freshman has posted top-30 finishes at the Jim Rivers and Inverness Intercollegiate.

J. Holland Humphries has played in seven events in his career. Last time out, Humphries finished in a tie for 17
th at the Thunderbird Collegiate shooting a 67 in the middle round. Humphries finished in the top half of the field at the Arizona Thunderbirds Intercollegiate. At the Trinity Forest Invitational, Humphries finished in 50
th place among the 90-player field. Humphries shot a 70 on the final day to move up the leaderboard. He posted two rounds of par or better at the event. At the Wake Forest Invitational, Humphries finished in 18
th led by rounds of 70 and 71 in the final two rounds.

Will Sides has six tournaments under his belt and has finished in the top third in three of them. Sides posted a 28
th place finish at The Thunderbird Collegiate shooting 72 or better in each round. The freshman led the Mustangs with a 21
st place finish at the Louisiana Classics shooting even par in his final round. Sides secured a T-12 finish at the Cal Poly Invite led by a round of 69 on the final day. At the Trinity Forest Invitational, Sides finished in 20
th with his best round of 68 on day three.

Christian Clark has a 73.89 scoring average through six events this season. Last time out, Clark finished in the top quarter with a 20
th place finish at the Thunderbird Collegiate. His best showing came in the Trinity Forest Invitational where he placed in sixth of 90. Clark posted a top-15 finish at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate.
Last Time Out
The Mustangs finished in fifth of 12 against a stacked field at the Thunderbird Collegiate. SMU shot even par or better in each of the three rounds including a four-under score in the middle round. The Mustangs were led by
J. Holland Humphries and
Nathan Petronzio who each finished in a tie for 17
th.
Christian Clark finished right behind in a tie for 20
th.
