FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- SMU had a great showing on Friday at the Chile Pepper Invite and came away with a second-place finish in a field of 34 teams. The Mustangs kept their score at 89 with Kaitlyn Gearin leading the team with a fifth-place finish and time of 16:58.2. 

"The team had a great day," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "The team stayed composed amidst a fast pace set by the Arkansas women. I am proud of their effort and excited for the rest of the season." 

Flora Tissier and Leoni Mierswa crossed the finish line with less than a second between them in 15th and 17th. Maddie Hulcy ran 17:37.2 for 22nd and Faustine Chaboche placed 33rd with a time of 17:52.6. Kendall Saeger and Jessie Crowley placed 58th and 80th amidst a field of nearly 300 athletes. 

The athletes will have one week off racing before their final regular season meet of the year on October 13th.
