Post-Game Press Conference with Coach Hudson and Jose Ortiz
DALLAS (SMU) - Senior goalkeeper Cole Johnson recorded six saves and secured a shutout in No. 11 SMU's 1-0 win over No. 25 Oral Roberts at Washburne Stadium on Monday, handing the Golden Eagles (3-1) their first loss of the season.
With just one minute remaining in the field half, SMU (3-1) senior forward Jose Ortiz logged his second goal of the season, placing the ball right in the bottom left corner of the net. The Arlington native has scored a goal in two out of three home games this season, with the first taking place in the Mustangs' 5-0 win over UCA.
"As soon as I saw it, my eyes lit up," Ortiz said on his goal. "I knew that was my one chance and I just concentrated on the technique — hitting it right and hitting it hard and low — and it went in."
The Mustangs improved to 3-0 at home this season and 11-1-1 at Washburne Stadium since the start of last season.
Johnson, a junior, started in goal en route to his six saves, including one off of the inside of his right knee — securing the shutout along with his back four.
Preseason All-American Mads Westergren assisted Ortiz in his goal during the first half.
SMU continues its homestand on Friday against No. 15 Saint Louis. Friday is fan appreciation night, which includes post game autographs. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. and the game will also be broadcast on ESPN+.
