No. 2 Mustangs Drop Contest At No. 4 Texas A&M

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) – The second-ranked SMU equestrian program fell to No. 4 Texas A&M, 14-6, on Thursday afternoon at Hildebrand Equine Complex.

The Aggies started fast, taking an 8-2 lead after the first two events. SMU battled back to claim a victory in fences, but Texas A&M would also record a 4-1 win in horsemanship to close out the meet.

Elli Yeager picked up MOP honors on flat, while Nya Kearns gained the accolade in horsemanship. This marks the third MOP award Yeager has picked up this season and the 23rd career MOP for Kearns.

SMU falls to 0-2 on the season, while Texas A&M improves to 1-0.

In the first event of the day, Texas A&M claimed four of the five points on flat. The lone win for the Mustangs was by Yeager, who took an 84.5-81.5 victory.

The Aggies continued their success in reining, claiming four points in the second consecutive event. Chalyce Head took a 72-71.5 victory to take the last point of the event for SMU.

SMU opened fences fast, picking up the first three points. Hannah Hoch recorded a 63.5-35 victory, Augusta Iwasaki posted an 85-82.5 decision and Aedan Mooney gained a narrow 77.5-76.5 win. Texas A&M would respond by taking the final two points, but the Mustangs won the event 3-2.

Texas A&M claimed the first two points of horsemanship before Kearns recorded a 76.25-74 result. The Aggies would respond by winning the final two points to take horsemanship 4-1.
