CHARLOTTE, N.C. (SMU/ACC) - SMU's opposite hitter, Naya Shime, was named ACC Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Shime made a significant impact for the Mustangs defensively with a team-high seven blocks as an opposite, averaging .88 blocks per set. She also logged 1.75 digs per set against Boston College and Syracuse this week.
The Mustangs went 2-0 on the week with wins over Syracuse and Boston College to remain unbeaten in conference play and extend their win streak to seven.
Shime is the third Mustang to be recognized by the conference. Middle blocker Nnedi Okammor was also named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 9, and Celia Cullen earned ACC Setter of the Week honors last week.
