DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's basketball head coach
Toyelle Wilson announced the signing of three high school prospects on Wednesday, National Signing Day.
Wilson, who is currently in her fourth season at the helm of the Mustangs, signed two international prospects from Spain, Alab Caballero and Mireia Jurado, while also landing an ESPN Top-100 four star recruit in Sania Richardson.
All three prospects will arrive on the Hilltop prior to the start of the 2025-26 season.
Sania Richardson | Ada, Okla. | PG | 5' 5'
Sania Richardson is an ESPN Top-100 (No. 86) four star recruit out of Ada, Okla that played for both Ada High School and Grind Prep. She has scored over 2,000 career points and was named ECOC MVP twice during her high school career. After averaging over 24 points a game last season at Grind Prep she was named League MVP. The point guard was also named to TOC Arkansas All-Tournament Team and the Mid America Tournament All-Tournament Team.
"Sania is a quick guard that will change the pace in how we play," Wilson said. "She has great court vision, a great facilitator, and can attack off the dribble and get to the rim. She is one of the best passers and playmakers I've seen in a while. She does things on the floor at her size that I can't believe she can do. Can't wait to have her on the Hilltop."
Alba Caballero | Ciudad Real, Spain | F | 6' 3'
A native of Ciudad Real, Spain, Alba Caballero comes to the Hilltop after decorated prep career. Throughout her career she earned multiple national championship medals including a Gold National Championship Medal of Communities and a silver medal at the European Young Olympics with Spain. She has made Spain's U13, U14, U15, U16, U17 and U18 national team roster and participated in Basketball Without Borders Phoenix 2024 showcase.
"Alba is a dynamic post player that can play inside and out," Wilson said. "She can shoot the three and finish around the rim. She loves the game and is another international kid we think that can contribute immediately with her experience playing for her country. Her basketball IQ is on a different level. She is athletic and versatile, and I'm excited to continue to help her grow and achieve her goals on and off the court.
Mireia Jurado | Avinyó, Spain | G | 6'0
Mireia Jurado is a native of Avinyó, Spain who has made multiple appearances on Europe's biggest basketball stages. Playing for Segle XXI club team out of Spain, she was on the U17 FIBA Women's World Cup Team that finished third overall. Her international basketball career started early as she was runner-up in the Spain U-12 Championship team as part of the Catalonian Team. While playing with Barca BCS in the Spanish Liga Femenina Challenge, she led the team to a fourth-place finish. Was part of the Catalonian team that won the U16 Spanish Championships and was part of Spain's national team that was runner up at the European Championships.
"MJ has so much international experience that we will value with in the program," Wilson said. "She has played at the highest level in Spain and can play all three positions on the perimeter. She can score at all three levels and she will elevate everyone around her. She has a knack for scoring the ball and has length where she can change how we play on both ends of the floor. So excited she is a Mustang."
