Fifth-ranked SMU Equestrian is set for a showdown with No. 4 Oklahoma State on Friday afternoon at Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center in Stillwater.
The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. and represents the last meet of the Mustangs' fall slate. SMU heads to Stillwater with a 3-3 record, while Oklahoma State sits at 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the Big 12.
The Mustangs are coming off a commanding 15-3 victory over ninth-ranked Baylor and enter the meet on a two-meet win streak, as well as winners of three of its last four. Oklahoma State enters following a home loss to top-ranked Auburn two weeks ago.
The Cowgirls holds a 12-8 advantage in the series, but SMU has won five of the last six.
BACK TO BACK
The Mustangs are the defending back-to-back National Champions, marking the 10th national title for SMU Athletics. SMU is the third school to claim back-to-back national titles, joining Auburn and Georgia.
HORSEMANSHIP SHUTOUTS
SMU has been strong in horsemanship as of late, picking up three shutouts of the event in its last four meets. The Mustangs had a perfect 5-0 advantage in the event against No. 6 Georgia and No. 2 TCU, along with a 4-0 victory over No. 9 Baylor. In addition, the Mustangs have earned Horsemanship MOPs in all six of the meets this season, with
Nya Kearns leading the way with four.
STRONG START FOR ELLI
So far this season, senior
Elli Yeager has posted a strong start to open up her campaign. She is 5-1 on the flat for the year with four MOP honors. In addition, she was tabbed Flat Rider of the Month for the month of October. She also tallied a MOP in fences during the season opener against TCU.
NYA CONTINUING TO BREAK RECORDS
Against Auburn,
Nya Kearns eclipsed two milestones for her collegiate career. Her victory in horsemanship marked the 50th of her career, and her MOP in the event earned her the 25th honor of her career. Both numbers are SMU records, and she now has the most horsemanship MOPs in NCEA history.
UNDEFEATED THUS FAR
Four Mustangs boast unblemished records early in the season.
Augusta Iwasaki holds a 6-0 record in fences, while
Nya Kearns sits at 6-0 in horsemanship.
Chalyce Head holds a 5-0-1 record in reining this season.
