DALLAS (SMU)— Guard
Nya Robertson reached 1,000 career points and five Mustangs scored in double figures as the SMU women's Basketball program routed Arkansas Pine-Bluff 82-58 on Monday inside Moody Coliseum.
The Mustangs caught fire early and shot 50% from the field in the first half, outscoring UAPB 47-27. The SMU offense was clicking on all cylinders, as the team recorded a season-high 21 assists. All 10 SMU players who stepped onto the court scored and the Mustangs led the bench point differential 32-15 on the night. SMU dominated the paint, scoring 38 points down low, hauling in 48 rebounds and reaching 20 offensive rebounds for the third time this season.
It only took Robertson 63 career games (56 at George Washington / 7 at SMU) to reach 1,000 career points. She reached the milestone at the beginning of the third quarter and ended her night with 12 points. Robertson entered the night ranked ninth in the NCAA, averaging 23 points a game.
Center
Jessica Peterson has now had a double-digit in back-to-back games as she led SMU in rebounds with 12 and scored 10 points. It was her third career double-double as she also added a career-high six blocks. It was the most blocks by an individual Mustang in a game since Alicia Froling had seven against Wichita St in 2019.
Guard
Ella Brow had a career night, knocking down a career-high four three-pointers. She went 4-7 from beyond the arc and tied her career-high with 14 points. She also led SMU in assists, tying her season high with five.
Forward
Chantae Embry scored 14 points as she has reached double figures in all seven games this season. She went 6-8 from the foul line and is now 28-33 from the stripe this season. She also added six boards.
It was an efficient night for guard
TK Pitts as she scored 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting. She also was a force on defense recording four steals. Forward
Sandra Magolico had her best game as a Mustang as she scored six points and grabbed six rebounds in only eight minutes of action.
// HOW IT HAPPENED
The Mustangs started clicking on offense towards the end of the first as back-to-back three-pointers from Brow followed by a
Donavia Hall layup capped off an 8-2 run that gave SMU a 24-14 lead at the end of the quarter. The 24 points are tied for the second most points the team has scored in a single quarter this season.
Mustangs continued to dominate in the second quarter as Brow knocked down two more from beyond the arc. Peterson and Embry went to work down low towards the end of the quarter as SMU end the first half on a 13-3 run as was up 47-27.
SMU had 11 assists in the half and shot 50% from the field. Peterson led SMU in rebounds with six, tied her career-high in blocks with four and scored eight. Brow led all scorers with 12 points, and Embry also had eight.
Right at the beginning of the third quarter,
Nya Robertson drove baseline before pulling up and sinking a mid-range jumper to reach 1,000 career points. She led the Mustangs in scoring that quarter with five as the lead continued to grow.
SMU used a 6-0 run at the beginning of the fourth to push the lead to 23. Robertson scored seven in the second half as the Mustangs coasted to their 24 victory outscoring UAPB 22-17 in the final quarter.
