Adding Championship Pedigree
In the summer, Ozzie Quevedo added 2013 CSCAA Swimming Coach of the Year Mike Bottom to the Mustang coaching staff.

Bottom served at Michigan as the men's head coach for swimming from 2008 until 2023. In 2013, he also became the head coach for the women's program.

Under his guidance, Bottom led the men's program to the 2013 NCAA Championship. During his time with the Wolverines, the program captured 12 Big Ten titles over a 15-year stretch on the men's side. As the head coach for the women, the Wolverines had three consecutive Big

Ten titles from 2016 until 2018 and 11 NCAA top-10 finishes.

His coaching resume is among the most decorated in the Big Ten's history, having coached nine National Champions — including one relay team. Bottom has led 51 athletes to become CSCAA All-Americans and 140 Big Ten individual champions.

Big Ten Coach of the Year nine times — two times on the women's side and seven times for the men. His coaching success extends beyond collegiate competition, having coached at the past six Olympic Games. He served as an assistant coach for Team USA at Rio's 2016 Games.

Returning To The Hilltop
SMU returned 2024 two-time American Athletic Conference champion, Jimena Leal. Leal won the 200 back and 400 medley relay while finishing second in the 100 back in the AAC Championships in February. Leal made two NCAA B cuts in the 100 and 200 back. Senior Tiffanie

Ruan is the only returning swimmer from the 400 free relay quartet that won gold in the 2024 AAC Championships.

On the diving side, Jaclynn Fowler returns after competing in the 2024 NCAA Diving Championships last spring. Fowler placed 17th in the 1-meter. Fowler and sophomore Ava Anderson won the 1-meter team diving at the AAC Championships.

A New Look
SMU's 2024-25 squad features 10 new faces. The group of newcomers consists of five freshmen and five transfers. Among the transfers is Madeleine Hebert, who transferred from NC State, providing ACC experience. Sophomores Madison Parker and Mira Szimcsak joined the Mustangs from Washington State, Isabella Krantzcke transferred from Arizona State and Rachel Anderson hails from Loughborough University in England.

The diving team welcomes three freshmen. Reagan Evans, Sadie Klepfer and Natalie Stubbs will compete as rookie Mustangs.
