College Football Playoff Bracket

IRVING, Texas (CFP/SMU) –
The SMU football team has been selected as an 11 seed for the College Football Playoff.

SMU will face Penn State in the first round of the playoff on the road, marking the third meeting between the two programs.

This marks the first time that the Mustangs have been chosen for the College Football Playoff, which debuted in 2014. This season is the first year the playoff has featured a 12-team bracket.

SMU is amidst a historic season, going a perfect 8-0 in ACC games in the program's first season in the conference. The 8-0 conference record marks the best by a team moving up to the power conference level from the group of five, and the Mustangs are only the second team to boast a winning record in their first season.

The current 11-2 record marks the second consecutive double-digit win total for SMU. This marks the first time since the 1983 and 1984 season that the Mustangs have accomplished the feat.

The Mustangs will enter their opening-round road matchup with the second-longest road winning streak in the nation with 10. SMU is one of five teams unbeaten on the road this season.

SMU has been stout on both sides of the ball this season, ranking fourth nationally in rushing defense, fifth in defensive touchdowns, sixth in scoring offense and 10th in first downs offense.
