STILLWATER, Okla. (SMU) – The No. 3 SMU equestrian team fell 11-9 to No. 7 Oklahoma State on Saturday at the Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center.
SMU moves to 7-3 on the year, including a 1-1 season split with the Cowgirls.
Two Mustangs –
Taylor Zimmerman (Reining) and
Jayna Lagace (Horsemanship) – earned Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) awards.
The meet started with Fences and Reining occurring simultaneously, with SMU taking victories in both events.
Augusta Iwasaki got the Mustangs started in Fences, scoring an 83.5 for SMU's first point of the meet.
Hensley Humphries followed, beating Oklahoma State's Sydney North 81.5-75.
Taylor Madden then clinched the Fences win for SMU in her 82.5-68 victory over Paige Jones.
SMU scored thrice more to win the Reining event and take a 6-4 lead into halftime.
Dani Latimer came away with a 74-73 win over Oklahoma State's Emma Filiatraeu, with
Taylor Zimmerman's 75.25 also winning against Abby Budd's 74.75.
Lily Anderson scored SMU's final point of the half, posting a 74.5 to help the Mustangs take the first two events.
The second half saw the Flat and Horsemanship coincide.
Caroline Nielson defeated Oklahoma State's Maddie Fussell 78.25-77.75 for SMU's first point in Horsemanship.
Jayna Lagace also scored for the Mustangs, beating Bella D'Onofrio 81.5-79.75.
Nya Kearns defeated Claire McDowall 81.5-77 to give SMU the 3-2 Horsemanship win.
SMU continues on the road to College Station, Texas, in a meet with No. 2 Texas A&M on Saturday at the Hildebrand Equine Complex.
