Mustang’s 4x400 Places Third to End AAC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (SMU) -- The Mustangs ended the American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships today in sixth place with athletes producing several personal bests and season bests as well as a top-10 SMU time in the 4x400.Â
"There were some big time moves for individuals this weekend," Head Coach A'Havahla Haynes said. "As a team, we came up short on our goal to best our 2023 performance. It stings because the goals were so close."Â
While the overall team finish wasn't as high as the team was aiming for, history was still made. The 4x400 made up of Nea Sanders, Whitney Williams, Kirin Chaccia, and Hali Murphy ran a time of 3:41.21 earning them a bronze medal and a spot in the history books with the third fastest time in SMU history.Â
In the mile, Macey Hilton brought points in for the Mustangs with a fifth-place finish and time of 4:53.32. Leoni Mierswa ran 4:58.02 for ninth, and Flora Tissier had a season best time of 5:00.55 in 10th. Â
Faustine Chaboche had a PR race in the 3,000 where she placed sixth and ran a time of 9:36.32. Kaitlyn Gearin placed 15th with 9:49.13 and Hilton wasn't far behind in 17th – also running a PR of 9:51.11. Leoni Mierswa placed 21st and Flora Tissier placed 35th. Â
In the 400, Hali Murphy ran a time of 56.53 for eighth to add to the Mustang's score.Â
Maykayla Jackson jumped 12.01 meters in the triple jump – a season best – which placed her 12th among the competition.Â
Olivia Dobson placed 10th in both the shot put and the high jump with Gabriella Ayiteyfio right behind with 11th in the high jump.Â
The NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held from Friday, March 8 to Saturday, March 9.Â
