LAFAYETTE, La. (SMU) – SMU men's golf advanced eight spots up the leaderboard in round two to end the day in sixth place at the Louisiana Classics.
The Mustangs started the 36 hole day with a five-over performance in round one. The team sat in 14
th after the first 18 holes. SMU shot up the leaderboard with a stellar second round. The Mustangs carded eight-under par for the round to jump all the way into sixth place. The team reached as high as a tie for third nearing the end of the round. Three of the five Mustangs played the second round under par including two at four-under. The Mustangs sit just three strokes back of a spot in the top three heading into the final round.
Will Sides led the Mustangs with a score of one-under through 36 holes. After carding a 75 in round one, Sides responded with a 68 in round two. He moved up 41 spots on the leaderboard with his ninth round in the 60s this season. He sits in a tie for 18
th with one round to play.
Areen Aggarwal and
J. Holland Humphries both sit in 28
th place at one over par. Aggarwal moved up 19 spots in round two with a 71. The freshman eagled the par five 11
th hole. Humphries shot even par in round one followed by one over in round two.
Zachary Kingsland carded rounds of 72 and 74 on the day. The sophomore sits in a tie for 37
th at two over par.
After an 80 in round one,
Matthew Foster carded a 68 in round two to move up 33 spots on the leaderboard. He holds a share of 52
nd place with 18 holes remaining.
Competing as an independent,
Christian Clark sits in 86
th place.
With 18 holes left to play, the Mustangs return for round three of the Louisiana Classics on Tuesday.
