Box Score DALLAS (SMU) – The No. 39 SMU women's tennis team defeated No. 66 Rice 4-1 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Saturday.

SMU improves to 7-6 on the year with its third ranked-win of the season. The Mustangs are now 2-0 against American Athletic Conference foes and hold a 6-1 home mark.

SMU took a 1-0 lead on the afternoon by securing the doubles team point. Hadley Doyle and Drew Morris wasted no time to take court three in a 6-1 win over Rice's Divna Ratkovic and Anushka Ashar. The No. 27 duo of Taylor Johnson and Lana Mavor would go on to clinch the doubles point with their 6-3 victory against Chie Kezuka and Federica Trevisan.

All three of SMU's singles' wins came in straight sets.

Johnson also picked up a singles win, defeating Rice's Darya Schwartzman (6-2, 6-0) to claim court one and put SMU up 2-0. Doyle earned SMU's next win over Chie Kezuka (6-1, 6-1) to put the Mustangs one point away from clinching the match.

With SMU leading 3-1, Maja Makoric took home court five with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Rice's Nithesa Selvaraj to clinch the match.

SMU travels to take on UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday at the Arnhold Tennis Center. Wednesday's dual match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. (CT).
