Jun 27

CLEVELAND (NACDA) - SMU finished 2023-24 as the No. 1 American Athletic Conference program and ranked 54th nationally in the final LEARFIELD Directors' Cup Division I Standings with 447.5 points. The Mustangs finished ahead of six programs from the Big 12, five schools from the ACC, four teams from the Big Ten and three programs from the SEC.

The Mustangs had a program-record eight championship teams including AAC championships in football, men's soccer, rowing, volleyball, women's golf and women's tennis. Men's swimming and diving won the ASUN and Equestrian won a second consecutive NCEA National Championship.

SMU had 15 teams represented in the postseason and nine SMU teams finished in the top 35 of the NCAA or national rankings. The Mustang programs combined to win 81.1% of home contests in 2023-24.

In addition to the team championships, SMU student-athletes claimed 28 individual conference titles, earned 13 Player of the Year selections, totaled 20 All-America honors and accumulated 109 all-conference awards. The Mustangs finished the year with 10 coaches/staffs of the year.

Football went 11-3, claiming the AAC title to become the 16th different SMU team to win at least one league crown since 2013.

The LEARFIELD Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
