DALLAS (SMU) — The SMU women's soccer program fought hard but fell 2-1 to Baylor Thursday night inside Washburne Stadium in the team's last non-conference match this season.

Eliana Salama scored her fourth goal of the season, a team-high, on a Truth Byars and Kelly Gordon feed. It was her eighth career goal.

Goalkeeper Sierra Cota-Yarde recorded a season-high five saves, four of which occurred in the first half.

The Mustangs rattled off 10 shots (four on goal) to Baylor's 15 (seven on goal).

SMU heads into its inaugural ACC slate with a record of 4-3-0, while Baylor improved to 5-1-0. The Mustangs were the first team to score a goal against the Bears in their last three matches.

// HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams generated scoring opportunities right out of the gate, but the Mustangs would strike first off the foot of Eliana Salama in the 12th minute.

The freshman Kelly Gordon forced a turnover deep inside Baylor's half and connected with Truth Byars, who set up Salama to fire one into the top left corner.

Both Gordon and Byars earned their first assist of the season on the play.

SMU would continue to attack on offense as Salama sent a shot off the crossbar and then off the Bears' goalkeeper but never crossed the goal line.

The Mustangs carried their 1-0 lead into the half despite being outshot 7-5 by the Bears.

Cota-Yarde tied her season high in saves (4) in the first half.

Baylor came out of the break attacking on offense and scored the match-equalizing goal in the 55th minute.

SMU would respond as Mackenzie Rudden and Liz Eddy would send shots towards the net in the 70th and 73rd minute but could not find the back of the net.

The Bears' Tyler Isgrig broke the tie, scoring the match-deciding goal in the 77th minute.
