Sitz Named ACC Diver Of The Week For Fourth Time Of The Season

Jan 7

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC/SMU) – SMU freshman diver Luke Sitz has been tabbed ACC Diver of the Week for the fourth time this season, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Sitz earns the honor after recording podium finishes in both of his events at the Georgia Diving Invite over the weekend. Both of the freshman's scores were the highest mark in the conference for the week.

To open his weekend on Friday, Sitz earned a second-place finish on 1-meter. He recorded a score of 360.10 in finals to take second place just 18 points back from the top of the leaderboard. The Prosper native got stronger as the event went on, recording four consecutive dives of 58 points or more to close out the event. His top two dives were his last two, recording a 63 on a Forward 3 1/2 Somersault Tuck and a 67.20 on a Forward 2 1/2 Somersault 1 Twist Pike.

He continued his success on Saturday on 3-meter, placing third in finals after earning the top score in prelims. Sitz earned a score of 366.90 to take third during the finals of the event. During prelims, he recorded a score of 426.85, just under 10 points off from the SMU record.

Sitz eclipsed the NCAA Zone Standard in both events this weekend, and he has now reached the standard in each meet he's competed in as a Mustang. The freshman has also earned a podium finish in every event this season. In addition, Sitz has been named ACC Diver of the Week following each of his meets as an SMU diver.

The Prosper native's success is not limited to his performances as a Mustang, as he also competed at the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships on behalf of the United States during the week of Thanksgiving. Sitz posted three top-six finishes, including placing fifth on both 3-meter and 3-meter synchronized.

His collegiate success was foreshadowed last summer when he recorded two top-four finishes at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Diving Trials, the highest finisher below the age of 20 on both 3-meter and 3-meter synchronized.

The 22nd-ranked SMU men's swimming & diving program hits the road for its first dual meet of 2025 against consensus top-ranked Texas on Friday at 3 p.m. CT in Austin.
