DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Athletics named Clark Williams Senior Associate A.D. for Brand Advancement and Strategic Communications. Williams comes to the Hilltop after three years as the Vice President of Communications & Strategy for the Big 12 Conference.

Williams will oversee brand strategy, media initiatives, and special projects while leading the creative services, MustangVision, and public relations teams. He will also serve as a member of the athletics director's senior leadership team.

As Vice President of Communications & Strategy for the Big 12 Conference from 2022–25, Williams oversaw all sports, business, and strategic communications for the league, including public affairs and crisis management. He also advised Commissioner Brett Yormark on strategic initiatives related to conference realignment, international growth, and the launching of programs such as the Big 12 Alumni Council and Business Advisory Board.
Before his tenure at the Big 12, Williams served as the Director of Communications for the Detroit Pistons from 2020-22. In this role, he oversaw brand and strategic communications, while serving in a managing role for basketball communications. Prior to joining the Pistons, Williams spent five years as the Director of Sports at Berk Communications, where he led public relations for Roc Nation Sports and its roster of athletes.
Williams is a graduate of the University of Missouri with a BS in Sport Management.
