Miller Selected Preseason All-ACC

Mustangs Picked Sixth In ACC Preseason Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (SMU) – Senior guard Boopie Miller was selected preseason All-ACC Second Team and the Mustangs were picked sixth in the vote by a select media panel, the ACC announced on Tuesday. Miller received the highest vote total of any member of the preseason All-ACC Second Team (27). The teams in front of the Mustangs are No. 6 Duke, No. 11 Louisville, No. 25 North Carolina, [rv] NC State and Virginia.

Miller received the highest vote of any member of the preseason All-ACC Second Team (27). He was All-ACC Third Team last season after averaging 13.2 points (26th ACC), 5.5 assists (4th ACC, 33rd NCAA), 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 steals (9th ACC) with a 2.50 assist-to-turnover ratio (2nd ACC, 41st NCAA). He also had a pair of game-winning shots, including a right-wing 3-pointer with 0.4 seconds left in a 54-52 win at Virginia. He was the Acrisure Holiday Invitational MVP after SMU defeated Washington State in the championship.

Head Coach Andy Enfield is entering his second season on the Hilltop with three returning starters and the nation's fourth-ranked high school recruiting class, which is the best in program history. Last season, the Mustangs went 24-11 overall and earned a No. 1 seed in the NIT. SMU finished 13-7 in the program's inaugural season in the ACC to tie for fourth, recording a 7-3 road record in league play. The Mustangs also won the Acrisure Holiday Invitational.

Miller is one of three returning starters, including senior guard B.J. Edwards, who was ACC All-Defensive Team while averaging 9.9 points (52nd ACC), 4.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists (10th ACC) and 2.4 steals (2nd ACC, 11th NCAA) with a 2.02 assist-to-turnover ratio (10th ACC). Edwards had an SMU-record 83 steals. Sophomore center Samet Yiğitoğlu returns after averaging 10.0 points (51st ACC), 6.2 rebounds (17th ACC) and 1.0 blocks (15th ACC) while shooting 53.5% from the field.
In non-conference play, SMU faces four SEC teams beginning with a visit to [rv] Mississippi State on Nov. 28 and then [rv] Vanderbilt in the ACC/SEC Challenge on Dec. 3. Texas A&M is next in the Hoop Hype XL matchup at the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas on Dec. 7 followed by the Compete 4 Cause Classic versus LSU in New Orleans on Dec. 13.

The Mustangs have nine non-conference home games, including a return game with Butler on Nov. 15. The season opens at Moody Coliseum against Tarleton State on Nov. 3. SMU will host Oklahoma State in an exhibition on Oct. 25.
The ACC home slate includes No. 25 North Carolina (Jan. 3), Virginia Tech (Jan. 14), Virginia (Jan. 17), Florida State (Jan. 24), [rv] NC State (Feb. 3), Notre Dame (Feb. 10), No. 11 Louisville (Feb. 17), Boston College (Feb. 21) and Miami (Mar. 4). The road ACC contests are at Clemson (Jan. 7), at No. 6 Duke (Jan. 10), at Wake Forest (Jan. 20), at No. 11 Louisville (Jan. 31), at Pitt (Feb. 7), at Syracuse (Feb. 14), at Cal (Feb. 25), at Stanford (Feb. 28) and at Florida State (Mar. 7). The ACC Men's Basketball Tournament is March 10-14 at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.
