TYLER, Texas (SPORTyler/SMU) – SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings has been named as an honorable mention for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Player of the Week, the organization announced on Tuesday.

In last week's 31-18 victory over Syracuse, Jennings played at an elite level, throwing a career-high four passing touchdowns. The Texas native had 16 straight completions during the game, earning a new career best and ranking second in program history. Jennings completed 29 of 35 passes for a completion percentage of 82.9%, putting himself second in single-game completion percentage in the Mustang record book. 

Spreading the offense at a high level, Jennings had eight different receivers catch a pass against Syracuse. At least seven players have had a reception for the Mustangs in 33 of the past 36 games. His four touchdown passes on Oct. 4 place him fifth in career touchdown passes at SMU with 42.

Jennings leads the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in points responsible for per game (16.8), placing him 13th in the nation. Additionally, he ranks eighth in FBS in passing touchdowns (13) and 13th in passing yards per game (282.2), putting him second in the conference for both categories. Nationally, the quarterback ranks 13th in completions per game (23.00) and 14th in completion percentage (0.714), ranking fourth and third in the ACC, respectively.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
 
The nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or currently playing at Texas D1 four-year college.
 
In addition, the organization also awards player of the week honors to individuals across the state with standout performances on a given week.
