DALLAS (SMU) – No. 7 SMU equestrian upsets No. 4 Texas A&M 14-6 at the Dallas Equestrian Center on Thursday, nabbing each MOP award and sweeping Reining.
The Mustangs started off strong, going 4-1 in Fences. Caroline Signorino scored an 85, earning the first point of the meet. All-American Augusta Iwasaki followed with an MOP-winning performance, throwing down a score of 85.5. Freshman Schuyler Dayner scored an 83 on Cora, defeating her Aggie opponent Grace Defoe. Senior Hannah Hoch secured the final point for the Mustangs, besting Texas A&M's Kate Egan.
In Horsemanship, the Mustangs won, taking home three more points. Jayna Lagace nabbed a score of 76.5 to claim her win. Violet Shetler secured her second MOP of the season after riding Austin for a score of 77.75. Shetler's honor keeps SMU's Horsemanship MOP streak alive, bringing the total to 21 straight Horsemanship MOPs. Sophomore Shaelyn Boutelle claimed her first victory as a Mustang, beating the Aggies' Kendal Dirksen 75.5-73.75.
On Flat, Iwasaki earned her second MOP of the night, marking her first time winning two MOPs at the same meet. Also picking up a win on Flat was Schuyler Dayner, going 2-0 in this competition.Â
SMU swept all of the Reining points, adding ten more points to the total. Captain Sara Beth Filiatreau claimed her first MOP of the season, scoring a 72 against Texas A&M's Gracie Casebolt. Siena Krueger stepped into the lineup, securing her first win of the season. Addi Schmersal nabbed another point for the Mustangs after earning a 73.25 on Bam. On Goose, Makenna Bomke performed a winning ride, posting a 70.25. The final Reining point came from freshman Madison Rafacz, continuing her perfect 4-0 collegiate record.
