DALLAS (SMU) — No. 5 seed SMU Men's Soccer fell 1-0 to Washington in the second round of the NCAA Championship at Washburne Stadium on Sunday.
 
SMU closed its 2025 campaign after winning the school's first ACC Championship title and finished with a 11-5-4 record.
 
The Mustangs were eliminated from the NCAA tournament in a match that saw scarce clear chances on goal. Washington scored the only goal of the match in the 72^nd minute.
 
How It Happened
The Huskies were on the front foot at the start of the first half, but SMU was able to capitalize in transitions. Jaylinn Mitchell was SMU's primary threat from the left wing.
 
SMU grew into the game and saw more chances halfway through the first half, attacking from both wings but the scoreline remained blank after 45 minutes.
 
The Mustangs had the slight edge at the start of the second half, but it was Washington who took the lead.
 
In the 72^nd minute, UW's forward swung a looping shot from the left wing off a loose corner kick. His shot curled into the top right corner of the goal to hit the net.
 
SMU resumed its endeavor to find a breakthrough but could not find the equalizer. Mukisa Emmanuel had header inside the six-yard box but his attempt bounced wide.
 
Despite the offensive attempts, the scoreline remained 1-0 after 90 minutes and SMU was eliminated in the second round of the NCAA Championship.
