CHARLOTTE, N.C. (ACC/SMU) – SMU guard
B.J. Edwards was named ACC Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The Mustangs (6-0) also received votes in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll for the first time since February of 2022.
For the week, he averaged 17.5 points, 11.0 assists, 6.5 steals and 5.0 rebounds in two wins while shooting 59.1% overall (13-22), 6-of-12 from three and 3-of-4 on free throws. In the
win against Arkansas State on Friday, he had a triple-double with career highs of 24 points, 13 assists and 10 steals. The triple-double is just the sixth in SMU history and the 42
nd in ACC history. It is the first for either that included steals. The 10 steals set the SMU program record and tied for second in ACC history.
For the season, Edwards is averaging 15.8 points (20

st NCAA), 3.0 steals (1

th NCAA) and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 53.8% overall, 44.0% on threes (11-25) and 73.7% on free throws.
SMU is 6-0 heading into
tonight's home game against Radford. The Mustangs received votes in this week's
USA Today Coaches Poll, the first time for the program since Feb. 21, 2022. SMU is averaging 93.3 points (5
th ACC, 25
th NCAA) and has scored at least 100 points three times this season. The Mustangs are shooting 51.2% (5
th ACC, 28
th NCAA) overall while grabbing 11.3 steals (2
nd ACC, 14
th NCAA) and dishing 19.8 assists (4
th ACC, 22
nd NCAA). SMU has had at least five double-figure scorers in five of six games and has five players averaging double figures in scoring:
