COLLEGE STATION, Texas (SMU) - SMU Women's Tennis sophomore
Sophie Llewellyn qualified for the NCAA Singles Championships after reaching the semifinal round of the ITA Sectional Championships on Saturday.
Llewellyn won all three matches in the event, defeating Oklahoma's Gloriana Nahum in the round of 32 (6-3, 5-7, 6-2) on Friday. In the round of 16, Llewellyn took down the No. 1 seed Maria Sholokhova (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) from Wisconsin. She then defeated Na Dong from Baylor in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) on Saturday to clinch the NCAA berth.
It will be the first NCAA Championships appearance for the sophomore. Llewellyn became the first Mustang to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships since Marta Lesniak did so in 2011.
