MARTIN, Tenn. (SMU) – No. 4 SMU Equestrian extended its winning streak to five by picking up victories over Delaware State and No. 9 UT-Martin on Friday and Saturday at Ned McWherter Agricultural Center.

The Mustangs (8-4) defeated the Hornets, 12-3, and posted a, 11-6, victory over the Skyhawks to continue the strong start to the spring slate.

The meet against Delaware State was originally scheduled to conclude on Friday, however cold weather in the Northwest Tennessee region forced all events to be competed in the indoor arena which caused the schedule to be adjusted.

SMU opened up the two-meet weekend with a bang, defeating Delaware State (3-7, 3-3 ECAC) in a meet that begun late on Friday and finished early on Saturday.

Elli Yeager picked up MOP accolades in both Fences and Flat, while
Alexa Black earned the honor in Horsemanship.
Â
SMU opened the meet by winning three out of four matchups on the flat.
Hensley Humphries, Yeager and
Augusta Iwasaki all picked up the wins for the Mustangs.
Â
The Mustangs would subsequently split Reining with the Hornets to bring the score of 5-3 after two.
Chalyce Head and
Shelby Clausen recorded the two wins for SMU.

In the final event on Friday, SMU swept Horsemanship once again with a 4-0 result.
Nya Kearns,
Jayna Lagace, Black and
Violet Shetler all added to their individual win column in the event.

The Ponies picked up right where they left off on Saturday morning, earning a shutout, 3-0, victory in Fences to secure the meet. The event saw
Avery Erickson,
Hannah Hoch and Yeager pick up wins for the Mustangs.

Following the win over the Hornets, SMU continued its success by picking up a victory over ninth-ranked UT-Martin (6-5, 6-0 ECAC) on Saturday.

MOP winners for the Mustangs were
Augusta Iwasaki (Fences),
Violet Shetler (Horsemanship) and
Elli Yeager (Flat).
The visitors opened up the meet with a 2-1 victory in Fences. Iwasaki and Yeager both posted wins for the Ponies in the event, while
Avery Erickson and
Aedan Mooney each drew their respective points to close out the opener.

SMU kept the momentum going in Horsemanship, picking up a 3-1 victory to stretch the lead. Shetler,
Alexa Black and
Nya Kearns recorded the trio of wins for the Mustangs in the event, with Kearns improving her record to a perfect 12-0 on the season.

The Flat saw more Mustang success, with the Ponies taking a 4-1 advantage. Iwasaki, Yeager,
Aedan Mooney and
Hensley Humphries were the four victors in the event for the fourth-ranked team in the nation.

In the final event of the weekend, the Mustangs dropped Reining 3-2 to the Skyhawks. Picking up wins for SMU in the event were
Maria Richards and
Shelby Clausen.
