DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis swept UTRGV 7-0 at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Saturday.
 
The Mustangs took the doubles point and never looked back, winning three straight singles matches to clinch the match and the remaining played-out singles matches.
 
Georgi Georgiev won his third consecutive singles match with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ivo Isqueiro. He is undefeated in six straight matches without dropping a set and has a 10-1 record in singles.
 
With the win, the Mustangs improved to 8-6 in the season.
 
How it Went
SMU took a fast start as Vikas Deo and Xavier Calvelo won the first match of the day in doubles over Sam Whitehead and Will Robert (6-2).
 
The Vaqueros won the third line of doubles, but Maks Silagy and Georgiev were able to clinch the doubles point with a 7-5 win over Santiago Serrano and Loic Young.
 
Georgiev doubled the Mustangs' lead by defeating Ivo Isqueiro (6-3, 6-2) to earn his third consecutive singles win and remain undefeated in six consecutive matches.
 
Deo took the second singles point with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Isaac Smyth to make it a match point for the Mustangs.
 
Silagy clinched the match for the Mustangs by winning his singles match 6-3, 6-1.
 
The teams played out the remainder of the matches, and the Mustangs won all three remaining singles matches to win 7-0.
