DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Women's Tennis fell to Florida State (12-4, 3-3 ACC), 4-3 at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex Friday night in the first of two matches for the Mustangs at home this weekend.
 
After dropping the doubles point, SMU won three straight to start singles, but the Seminoles responded with three of their own, including the match winner on court six.
 
Drew Morris and Ellie Pittman secured the first win of the afternoon as they defeated Kristyna Lavickova and Millie Bissett 6-2. Florida State won the following two courts to take the doubles point, outlasting the Mustangs in tiebreaker sets. No. 89-ranked Eva Shaw and Maria Romero edged out Sophie Llewellyn and Caroline McGinley on court one 7-6 (7-3), and then the Seminoles closed out doubles play with a 7-6 (7-5) win by Maelie Monfils and Laura Putz over Kayla Schefke and Arianna Stavropoulos at position three.
 
Ellie Pittman put the first point on the board for SMU in singles, winning 6-2, 6-4 over Mary Boyce Deatherage (FSU). Arianna Stavropoulos extended SMU's lead to 2-1 with a win over Millie Bisset (FSU) 6-4, 6-4 on court four. Drew Morris collected the Mustangs' third straight singles win with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 victory over Kristyna Lavickova (FSU) on court two. With SMU up 3-1, the Noles fought back with wins on courts five and one to even the total score at 3-3. The match came down to court six, where Laura Putz (FSU) got the best of Caroline McGinley to win the match, defeating McGinley 6-7, 6-2, 6-2.
