Boutelle Signs With SMU Equestrian

May 23

DALLAS (SMU) – Shaelyn Boutelle has officially signed to join the SMU equestrian team, head coach Brad Kearns announced on Friday.

Boutelle will join the Mustangs after one season with Georgia. She competes in Horsemanship and had a very successful fall season with the Bulldogs.

"We feel very lucky to have Shaelyn join the SMU Equestrian team," Kearns said. "She comes with a large amount of experience in the competition arena, with World and Reserve Championship titles on her resume. Shaelyn is a great asset for SMU and our Equestrian program."

In the fall with UGA, she earned two MOPs against Fresno State and UC Davis on back-to-back days. The freshman also had a 5-1-1 record during the fall campaign, the best record on the team in Horsemanship.

Thanks to her success during November, she earned Arion Sellier NCEA Rider of the Month honors and SEC Rider of the Month accolades.

Prior to her collegiate career, she boasted an impressive resume. The Elkhorn, Wisconsin, native won her first globe at the AQHYA World Show in the Level 3 Equitation in 2022 and repeated in 2023. She had many top finishes on two different horses. She also was AQHA Reserve Champion and year-end high point in Horsemanship and Equitation.

In 2023, she was the NSBA World Champion 14-18 Equitation, Bronze AQHYA World Show Champion L3 14-18 Equitation, finalist at the AQHYA World Show Level 3 14-18 Horsemanship, Reserve AQHA Congress Champion 15-18 Equitation and NYATT Equitation and finished sixth at AQHA Congress 15-18 Horsemanship.
