DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's basketball program announced its 2025-26 season opener against on Thursday as the team will host Grambling State on November 4, inside Moody Coliseum.
The season opener will tip off at 11 am CT and begin the 50
th season of women's basketball on the Hilltop.
The game will also be the program's annual Education Day game. Classes and groups can

- Free admission for all students, teachers, and chaperones (K-12)
- Student Q&A opportunity – Teachers can submit videos of their class asking the team questions. The players will answer the questions on the video board during the games.
- Concessions available (Note: Our venue is cashless, so students wishing to purchase items should bring a card or mobile payment)
- Outside lunches are allowed – schools are welcome to bring their meals
- No on-campus bus parking – drop-off and pick-up only
The opener will also be the program's first game under head coach
Adia Barnes. Barnes, a former WBCA Coach of the Year Finalist and Naismith Coach of the Year Semifinalist, was named Head Women's Basketball Coach at SMU on April 5.
SMU overhauled its roster, signing 15 new players ahead of the 2025-26 season. Of the 15, eight players transferred in from a P4 institution. The Mustangs will also be one of the more experienced teams in the nation, having added eight seniors/graduate students to the roster season. More information on the newcomers can be found

SMU women's basketball played its first season as a varsity team in 1976-77. Since then, the program has amassed over 700 victories, 23 winning seasons, five conference championships, seven NCAA Tournament appearances, 57 All-Conference selections, five All-Americans and 25 1,000+ point scorers. 50 years of dedication, strength, passion and a continued pursuit of excellence have defined the SMU women's basketball legacy.

Adia Barnes. By pledging $10 for each steal the team makes this season, you'll directly support their defensive intensity and overall success on the court.
Members pledge per steal and can cap their giving at 25 steals ($250), 50 steals ($500), or 100 steals ($1,000). Members who pledge for all steals and submit the closest estimate to the total number of steals made during the 2025-26 season will be entered to win exclusive SMU Women's Basketball memorabilia. All Steal Club members will receive an exclusive club item and an invitation to a member-only event.
