CLEVELAND, Ohio (Phil Steele/SMU) – SMU safety Ahmaad Moses and defensive end Isaiah Smith were recognized for their stellar seasons this year by the Phil Steele, earning All-America honors from the publication on Friday.
Moses was selected to the fourth team, while Smith garnered honorable mention for his breakout year.
For all-conference selections, the Mustangs had eight players earn spots on Phil Steele's All-ACC teams, four on offense and four on defense. Offensive tackle Logan Parr nabbed second-team honors while quarterback Kevin Jennings, wide receiver Jordan Hudson and offensive tackle PJ Williams were selected for the third team.
On defense, Ahmaad Moses was named to the first team and Isaiah Smith was tabbed to the second team. Safety Isaiah Nwokobia secured a place on the third team and defensive tackle Terry Webb garnered fourth-team honors.
Moses was explosive for the Mustangs this season, ranking seventh in the nation and third in the conference in interceptions with five. The senior led the defense with 104 tackles, good for fifth in the ACC.
The Arlington native also earned ACC Defensive Back of the Week twice this season, along with several other accolades, including the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl Defensive MVP, First-Team All-ACC, the Paycom Jim Thorpe Award National Defensive Back of the Week and a spot on the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award Semifinalist list. Before the beginning of the season, Moses was tabbed to Phil Steele's Preseason All-ACC second team.
Smith played an integral part on the Mustang defense this campaign. Recording a conference-leading 18 tackles-for-loss, the senior ranks fourth in the nation in the category. The Washington, D.C., native consistently found the quarterback, notching a career-best 8.5 sacks on the season and tying for third in the ACC in total sacks.
The defensive end adds this accolade to his list of several other honors including spots on the All-ACC second teams of the conference and the Associated Press. Prior to the start of the season, Smith was named Preseason All-ACC fourth team by Phil Steele.
Led by Smith and Moses, SMU earned a 9-4 record and a victory at the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl. The Mustangs rank first in the conference in passes intercepted (18), along with leading the ACC in red zone defense (0.702) and turnovers gained (28).
