ARLINGTON, Texas (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team took care of business in its final tune-up before conference play begins with a 7-0 victory at UT Arlington on Friday.
SMU improved to 7-0 in doubles points this season after the Mustangs saw 6-2 wins on courts one and two. Amelie Van Impe and Caroline McGinley improved to 4-0 on the season, while Ellie Mireles and Addison Comiskey collected their second consecutive victory as a tandem.
In singles action, Mireles ran past her opponent for the first individual win of the day, winning 6-0, 6-2. Soon after, Van Impe won 6-2, 6-2 on court one to put the Mustangs a win away from the clinch. No. 70-ranked Sophie Llewellyn clinched the match for SMU with a 6-1, 6-3 decision on court two for her fifth singles win of the spring.
The Mustangs completed the sweep with three more singles wins on the remaining courts. Comiskey secured the fourth, despite a 6-2 loss in the opening set. She won the following two frames 6-0, 6-0 to complete the impressive comeback. Stasny and McGinley grinded out two wins to each remain unblemished in singles play. Stasny improved to 6-0 in the spring, while McGinley moved to 5-0.
