BLACKSBURG, Va. (SMU) – SMU Women's Tennis collected its first ACC win of the season and in the Kelsey McKenna era, with a 4-1 win over Virginia Tech on Friday in Blacksburg. Junior Caroline McGinley clinched the win for SMU with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court three.   

No. 23 SMU is now 7-1 on the season and has won five straight matches.   

The Mustangs improved to 8-0 in doubles points this season, winning on all three courts against the Hokies. SMU holds a 17-2 combined doubles record. 

Sophie Llewellyn and Natalie Stasny earned their fifth win of the season with a 6-2 victory to start, followed by a clinch on court one from Caroline McGinley and Amelie Van Impe. McGinley and Van Impe moved to 5-0 in doubles this season with the win. Addison Comiskey and Ellie Mireles closed the doubles portion of the match with a 6-2 victory shortly after, their third straight victory as a pair.   

SMU saw its first win on court six, with Comiskey defeating Virginia Tech's Kirsten Woods 6-4, 6-1. Llewellyn extended the Mustangs' lead with a 6-2, 7-5 win on court two.   

Virginia Tech managed to get a point on the board with a win on court four; however, Caroline McGinley shut the door on the Hokies with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court three to clinch the conference win. With the win, McGinley is now 6-0 in singles matches this season.
