CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (SMU) – SMU Women's Tennis fell short at No. 15 Virginia Sunday afternoon, dropping their first ACC match of the season 4-1 to the Cavaliers.
The Mustangs moved to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in ACC play. The loss snapped a five-match winning streak for SMU.
Virginia got the best of the Mustangs in doubles, handing them their first doubles points loss of the spring season. SMU entered the match 8-0 in doubles points. Virginia took the first court, winning 6-3 on court three. Caroline McGinley and Amelie Van Impe responded with a ranked win on court one over the No. 3-ranked duo in the nation, Melodie Collard and Vivian Yang, 6-4. Unfortunately, the Cavaliers won the doubles point with a win on court two, 7-5.
The Cavaliers took the first two singles matches of the day to extend their lead, winning on courts two and four. Amelie Van Impe put the Mustangs on the board with a ranked win over No. 56 Vivian Yang on court one. Unfortunately, the Cavaliers clinched the match on court six to win the day 4-1.

The No. 23 ranked Mustangs return home to face No. 19 Duke on Friday and No. 3 North Carolina on Sunday at the Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
