Aguilar Promoted to Assistant Coach

DALLAS (SMU) — After two years of success as technical coordinator and one season as a graduate assistant for SMU volleyball, Diego Aguilar has been promoted to assistant coach ahead of his fourth season on the Hilltop. Aguilar was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association Thirty Under 30 Award winner before the 2025 season.

In his three seasons under Head Coach Sam Erger, Aguilar has been instrumental in helping build SMU into a top 10 program. In his role as technical coordinator, Aguilar managed the team's video, data, and technology needs, including filming practices and matches, breaking down film, and preparing statistical and scouting reports. He supported coaches by analyzing opponents' tendencies, assisting with practice planning, and ensuring all technical systems run smoothly to enhance team performance.

In his three seasons on the Hilltop, Aguilar has been a part of an American Conference Championship season, three NCAA Tournament Appearances, and several ranked wins.

Before arriving in Dallas, Aguilar played collegiately as a setter for Morningside University, then transferred to Missouri Valley College, where he graduated in 2022 with a business management degree.
