DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Women's Tennis improved to 5-1 on the season and 4-0 at home with a 6-1 victory over Grand Canyon on Friday. The Mustangs' 5-1 start is the best by the program since 2020.
SMU continued its perfect play in doubles action, moving to 6-0 in doubles play this season. The freshman tandem of Ellie Mireles and Addison Comiskey earned a 6-3 win to start the match, followed by a 6-4 victory for Amelie Van Impe and Caroline McGinley to clinch the doubles point. Van Impe and McGinley improved to 3-0 as a pair in the spring.
The Mustangs jumped on the Lopes early in singles, winning every first frame on each court. No. 70 Sophie Llewellyn got to the finish line first with a 6-3, 6-1 victory on court two, followed by Addison Comiskey, who won 6-1, 6-3 on court six. Caroline McGinley clinched the match for SMU and moved to 4-0 on the season with a 6-3, 6-0 win on court three.
In the remaining singles matches, Natalie Stasny collected her fifth win of the year with a 7-5, 6-1 decision. In the first of two matches to go to a third set, Amelie Van Impe outlasted her opponent on one, winning 6-2, 5-7, [10-7] for her second win of the year. Grand Canyon's Hams Metwally got the best of Ellie Mireles in the remaining match of the day, winning 2-6, 6-0, 6-4.
