SAN DIEGO (SMU) – SMU Women's Tennis earned its third straight victory and completed a three-match road stretch with a 4-0 win at San Diego State (11-2) on Thursday afternoon. SMU handed the Aztecs only their second loss of the season.
The Mustangs are now 13-5 overall and have finished the regular season 8-2 in true road matches this spring. The win is the highest ranked win for the Mustangs this season.
Wins on courts one and three highlight doubles in the matchup, starting with a 6-4 win by Natalie Stasny and Sophie Llewellyn over Gloria Alog and Lissa Varul of San Diego State. Stasny and Llewellyn improved to 11-4 together in the spring.
No. 10-ranked Amelie Van Impe and Caroline McGinley collected their sixth ranked win of the season, defeating San Diego State's No. 50-ranked pair of Jo-Yee Chan and Vessa Turley, 6-4.
The Mustangs have won 15 out of 18 doubles points this season.
In singles action, No. 61-ranked Sophie Llewellyn earned the first win for SMU, defeating Gloria Alog 6-3, 6-1. The win marked her team-leading 11th singles win of the dual season.
Freshman Addison Comiskey continued her strong stretch of play, moving from court six to court five in the match, and winning 6-3, 6-4 over Teja Tirunelveli of San Diego State. The win gives Comiskey 10 on the season, tied for the second-most on the team in the spring this season. She has also won four straight decisions.
No. 63-ranked Amelie Van Impe clinched the match for SMU with a 7-5, 6-1 win on court one. She improved to 9-3 in the spring of her freshman campaign,8-2 on court one. She has also won her last three singles appearances.
