ROLLING HILLS ESTATE, Calif. (SMU) – SMU women's golf sits in fifth place after a two-round day one at the GameAbove Sports Invitational.

"We Had a solid showing in the first round and I'm proud of the consistency and steadiness we're seeing from Celine and Mackenzie," said fifth-year head coach Lauren Mason. "Celine led the way with a great opening round. We know it will take a complete team effort tomorrow, but once again we've put ourselves in contention for a strong finish."

 
The Mustangs posted an even par first round to hold a share of third place after each golfer had finished 18 holes. The Mustangs shot 12-over in round two to move into fifth. The Mustangs are in front of three ranked teams in the 11-team field, No.. 11 UCLA, No. 22 Arizona and No. 44 Colorado. SMU is three shots back of the top three. USC leads the field at 13-under par.
 
Celine Chen led the Mustangs with stellar play on day one. She carded a 69 in round one and even par in round two. Chen birdied eight times on the day including five times in round one. She sits in a tie for third place at three-under. The Australian is four shots back of the top spot in the tournament and will search for her sixth career top 10 showing.
 
Mackenzie Lee holds a share of 13^th after back-to-back rounds of 73, one over par. She moved up the leaderboard during her round two. With a strong day two, Lee can add to her program record of 22 top 10 finishes.
 
Grace Jin carded rounds of 72 and 80 during Monday's play. She played bogey-free on her first 10 holes of the day. Jin owns 36^th place. Kirra St-Laurent shot 74 in round one followed by a 79 in round two. She holds a share of 37^th place. One shot back, Emily Odwin carded 78 and 76 and sits in 41st place.
 
The Mustangs return to the course for round three on Tuesday with an opportunity to move up the leaderboard. The team tees off at 10 am CT/ 8 am PT paired alongside Oregon and Tulsa.
