DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team fell 4-2 to No. 23 Cal (11-6, 8-4 ACC) on Friday to open their final weekend of regular season play. With the loss, the Mustangs fell to 14-6, 6-5 in ACC play.   

The Golden Bears got the best in doubles, handing SMU only its fourth doubles point loss of the season. Cal won on courts two and three to take the doubles point, 6-3 and 7-6 (7-3), respectively.   

No. 21-ranked Amelie Van Impe and Caroline McGinley got a win for the Mustangs on court one in between the two losses, defeating Cal's court one pair 6-3. The duo moved to 14-2, 9-2 against ACC opponents this spring.   

In singles, SMU jumped in front with two wins, starting on court one, as No. 59-ranked Amelie Van Impe earned her third ranked win of the year, defeating No. 13 #Berta Passola Folch, 6-2, 6-2.   

Then, freshman Addison Comiskey won her sixth straight match, defeating her opponent in comeback fashion for a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 win to put SMU up 2-1. The win for Comiskey gives her 12 in dual-match play, tying her for the most on the team. She also has six ACC wins, tied for the team lead with Van Impe.   

Cal began to regroup with wins on courts four and two, as the Mustangs came up short against two ranked opponents.   

The Golden Bears ultimately won the match on court six as Sophie Hernandez clinched for Cal with a 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 win. Caroline McGinley was the lone match that went unfinished. McGinley held a 5-4 lead in the third set and a 30-15 game score lead against her opponent.

The Mustangs will battle No. 47 Stanford on Sunday at 12 pm CT to close out the regular season.
