NORMAN, Okla. (SMU) – The SMU women's tennis team fell 4-2 to No. 6 Oklahoma (25-5) on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Championships in Norman.
The Mustangs end the 2026 dual season 16-8 in year one under head coach Kelcy McKenna.
Oklahoma collected the first doubles court of the day, fighting back to win 6-4 on court two.
The Mustangs No. 31-ranked duo leveled the doubles court score with a win over the No. 1 doubles pair in the country. Amelie Van Impe and Caroline McGinley took down Oklahoma's Roisin Gilheany and Gloriana Nahum 6-4 on court one. The Sooner pair entered the match 16-2 and on a seven-match winning streak.
Van Impe and McGinley improved to 17-2 and extended their winning streak to five straight decisions, all of which have been ranked opponents.
The freshman duo of Ellie Mireles and Addison Comiskey clinched the doubles point for SMU, also winning 6-4 over their opponent from Oklahoma. The win marked their ninth win of the season together.
SMU improved to 20-4 in doubles points this season.
Oklahoma put themselves in prime position, winning court six in straights sets, court three in three sets, then court four in straight sets to jump ahead 3-1.
No. 88 Sophie Llewellyn kept the Mustangs in it with a straight set win over No. 37 Edda Mamedova, 7-6(2), 6-3, to make the score 3-2. Llewellyn defeated her second ranked opponent of the spring and fifth overall in her career at SMU.
Unfortunately, the Sooners closed the match on court five winning a three-setter to advance to Super Regional play.
