Mustang Partners Announces $1 Million Gift From The Steve Lockton Family Foundation to Support SMU Student-Athletes

Gift will directly support SMU’s Student-Athlete Benefit Fund

DALLAS – Mustang Partners has announced a $1 million gift from the Steve Lockton Family Foundation to the Student-Athlete Benefit Fund. This gift underscores Lockton's unwavering commitment to SMU and its student-athletes, as well as the University's broader mission.

Steve Lockton '89 has a daughter, Carley, who graduated from SMU's Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences in 2022, and a son, Stephen, who is a current student at SMU. His generosity has helped shape several key projects across campus, including a $1 million gift to the Garry Weber End Zone Complex at Gerald J. Ford Stadium at the outset of that project.

"We're grateful for Steve Lockton's continued support of SMU Athletics," said Director of Athletics Damon Evans. "His belief in our student-athletes is clear, and this investment is another example of his commitment to helping us compete at the highest level. We're thankful for his continued support and the impact it will have on our program."

"SMU has been an incredible home for my family — for me as a student, for my daughter during her time on the Hilltop, and now for my son," said Lockton. "I'm proud to give back to a place that has meant so much to us. Supporting SMU's student-athletes and their development in the classroom and on the field is something I care deeply about, and I'm excited to help them continue to thrive at the highest level."

The Student-Athlete Benefit Fund allows donors to contribute directly to SMU in support of student-athletes.
