Ciao, Mustangs: SMU Men's Basketball Heads to Italy for Exhibition Series Aug. 6-14

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's basketball team will tip off its 2026-27 season abroad as the Mustangs play a pair of exhibition games in Rome as part of an international tour of Italy.

Off the court, SMU men's basketball student-athletes will explore Italy's rich history and culture, visiting historic sites such as the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica and the Colosseum. The trip will also include a Roman cooking class on the island of Isola Tiberina, as well as a boat tour of the Amalfi Coast and the islands of Capri and Nerano. Some student-athletes will receive course credit, using the trip to further their education in global perspectives, human diversity, community engagement and ethics.

The Mustangs enter their third season under Head Coach Andy Enfield boasting one of the nation's top transfer classes, ranked No. 9 nationally and third in the ACC by On3. Last season, SMU reached its first NCAA Tournament since 2017, earned a pair of top-25 wins, and appeared in both the AP Top 25 and USA Today Coaches Poll for the first time in nine seasons. The Mustangs also tied for the ACC lead with three All-ACC selections and finished among the nation's top 30 in scoring, assists, field-goal percentage and three-point percentage. The 2026-27 schedule features marquee non-conference matchups against Oklahoma, DePaul and UNLV before an 18-game ACC slate, with the ACC Tournament held March 9-13 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
