NORTHBROOK, Ill. (SMU) – SMU Football's Alexander Kilgore was named a 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team nominee on Monday in a release by the Allstate and AFCA.
 
For the third straight year, Allstate is partnering with the Wuerffel Foundation to align two of college football's most meaningful honors: the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy. Together, they recognize student-athletes who demonstrate excellence in community service, academics and athletics.
 
The Texas native makes the team for a second straight season. In 2025, Kilgore, a team captain, helped lead the Mustangs to a 9-4 record and its first bowl win since 2012 with a victory of No. 17 Arizona in the Trust & Will Holiday Bowl. On the year, Kilgore finished
 
 SMU's defense continued its opportunistic ways in 2025, ranking in the top 25 in several categories, including turnovers gained (fifth), red zone defense (fifth), passes intercepted (eighth), defensive touchdowns (10th), fumbles recovered (11th), turnover margin (14th), fourth down conversion percentage (18th), rushing defense (19th) and sacks (23rd).
 
Impactful in the community, Kilgore volunteered to coach youth football camps with local kids in the Dallas and Houston areas as well as spend time with patients at the Children's Health Hospital.
 
The 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be announced in September and include 22 student-athletes and one honorary head coach. One student-athlete will also be selected as team captain and receive the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.
