HOUSTON, TEXAS (SMU) – Senior offensive lineman Joshua Bates has agreed to participate in the Bryan Awards' Players of Impact Campaign, the Bryan Awards in partnership with the American Heart Association announced Monday.
 
The Bear Bryant Awards Leaders of Impact (LOI) initiative gives student-athletes the chance to create a real change far beyond the field. Through the Bear Bryant Awards and the American Heart Association, players step into a national leadership role – using their platform, influence and competitive spirit to champion heart health and CPR awareness.
 
Throughout the campaign, the association will highlight the investment and influence each athlete makes. The student-athletes who make the greatest overall impact – through awareness, engagement and fundraising – will be invited to the 2027 Bear Bryant Awards ceremony in Houston and will be recognized as a National College Football Lead of Impact Champion.
 
On the field, the Colorado native contributed to an offensive line that cleared the path for the Mustangs to average 283.1 passing yards per game, good for 12th nationally and second in the conference. He was also part of an offensive front that only allowed 19 sacks, ranked 12th nationally.
