DALLAS (SMU) — No. 5 SMU Men's Soccer wins 2-0 against LMU at Washburne Stadium on Friday.
In a night of firsts,
Joseluis Villagomez scored his first college career goal to open the scoring through
Nick Harshaw's first SMU assist.
Andre Philibbosian scored SMU's second goal of the night in the second half with his first goal for SMU.
Jaylinn Mitchell made an assist to add his tally to five goal contributions (one goal, four assists) in three games to start the season.
SMU's defense contained the Lions' offense to no shots on goal, while the Mustangs' offense made 20 attempts with five on goal.
The Mustangs start the season with a 3-0-0 record, including a top-five win over No. 4 Saint Louis.
How It Went
In a sporadic start, LMU had the slight edge at the start of the game, creating chances in the early minutes before SMU took control of the game at the 10-minute mark.
Jaylinn Mitchell took SMU's first attempt from the top of the box, but his bouncing ball was saved by LMU's goalkeeper.
Joseluis Villagomez put SMU on the board with his first collegiate goal in the 38
th minute.
Nick Harshaw swung a cross to the far post, where he found Villagomez to tap the ball into the net with his left foot.
The first 45 minutes ended with a 1-0 lead for SMU.
SMU remained on the front foot after the break and added to the lead in the 58
th minute through
Andre Philibbosian.
Jaylinn Mitchell swung a cross from the left wing, which found Philibbosian's foot in front of the goal. Philibbosian extended the lead to 2-0 with his first SMU goal.
The Mustangs saw multiple more chances, but they fell short of scoring a third goal. The match ended with the Mustangs' 2-0 win.
