Mike Walker enters his seventh season (2013-14) with SMU men's basketball, his second as academic liaison. He spent the 2011-12 season as the video coordinator after completing his career as a student-athlete for the Mustangs.
Walker was a tri-captain for the most successful season at SMU in more than a decade. The 2010-11 Mustangs recorded the first 20-win season and first postseason bid for the program since 1999-2000; finishing 20-15 and advancing to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT) semifinals. SMU also had its most wins in league play since joining Conference USA (8).
Walker was a four-year letterwinner (2007-11) for the Mustangs, finishing his career at SMU eighth in 3-point field goals (131), 13th in 3-point percentage (35.0, 131-374), 19th in free throw percentage (78.5, 95-121) and sixth in games played (120). As a senior, he averaged a career-best 6.9 points with 1.5 assists, 1.3 rebounds and 0.8 steals while shooting 36.7 percent on 3-pointers (44-120). In the CIT, he upped his averages to 7.5 points, 3.3 assists, 2.5 rebounds in 34.5 minutes. Walker also earned the team Defensive Award.
Walker completed his bachelor's degree at SMU in applied physiology and sports management in 2011. Walker is a native of Iowa City, Iowa, and played at South Kent School in Connecticut before signing with SMU.
